_Assistive Technology in the Classroom
|
Assistive Technology, or AT, is a term to describe devices that help people with disabilities complete tasks that they would not be able to do, or would have difficulty doing, without the AT. AT helps many people function better in their daily lives. For educators of students with disabilities, educators think AT helps students participate more fully in class and increases their independence.
Teachers, parents, and _students are often unaware of AT or not fully trained in AT. This is why it is important for teachers to focus on AT as a part of their professional development. |
Checklists for assessing types of AT
Checklists are available to assess what types of AT may help the student, and what types of AT the students and teacher should be trained in. These checklists range from simple lists to full student-teacher interviews.
